I’ve toyed with cold approaches for many years, both as a copywriter and a marketer
In the past ( specially early days) , I’ve always gone with the machine gun style approach:
1. Create a series of funny, but generic, emails
2. Feed them into an automatic CRM system, such as Lemlist.
3. Get as many email addresses as I can!
4. FIRE!!!!
It’s a simple system, and it works, but…
… after a while, it just became a numbers thing – definitely more about the quantity than the quality.
Doing it this way was a lot of work though, as I said, it did lead to some success.
Recently though, I’ve decided to be a bit pickier in my choice of clients – especially in copywriting, where you work with business owners over longer periods, rather than one-off gig.
I don’t want just ANYONE as a client…
… I want PERFECT people.
So… I made a decision:
TRADE-IN MY MACHINE GUN FOR A SNIPER RIFLE!
To ensure I only worked with people I could do my best work with…
… I needed to get choosy.
Probably easiest if I just show you what this looks like…
